If you are experiencing tingling and numbness in your hands or feet, you could be suffering from neuropathy. Our team at Arc of Life Chiropractic Natural Health Group in Ottawa provides quality chiropractic care for neuropathy.

What Causes Numbness and Tingling?

In many cases, the numbness and tingling are due to sciatica. You may experience a loss of sensation in the feet and hands, and have difficulties walking. When there is damage to the peripheral nerves, the muscles weaken, making it difficult to perform your daily tasks.

Symptoms of Neuropathy

The symptoms of neuropathy depend on the location and extent of the nerve damage. The symptoms manifests in three stages:

  • Numbness and Pain: This is the initial stage of neuropathy where you experience tingling sensations that sometimes feel like pins in your hands and feet. This stage has mild pain, and most people recover well with care.
  • Constant Pain: In this stage, there is sciatica. It involves constant shooting pain, which sometimes comes and goes or manifest as burning sensations at the waistline. There might also be some numbness on either side of your body and stabbing pain that worsens over time.
  • Loss of Sensation: This is the last stage of your neuropathy symptoms where the nerve endings are completely damaged and can no longer communicate with the brain. There is more intense numbness and tingling or a loss of sensation in the arms and/or legs.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is a safe, non-invasive, and natural option for people with neuropathy. Chiropractors use adjustments to create ease and promote communication of the affected nerves. Several different chiropractic techniques are included in a recommended care plan but your chiropractor should start with a complete assessment that should include:

  • Muscle assessment (EMG)
  • Nerve connection scan (thermal)
  • Adaptability scan (HRV)
  • Digital x-rays if deemed necessary
