Vegan Hot Dogs

Best vegan Hot dogs

Delicious carrots that are the perfect consistency spicy and full of flavour from slowly cooking in the tomato sauce. The best thing about this recipe is that when you make the “hot dogs” the by-product is the most amazing sauce you can save for later to use as pizza or pasta sauce.

6 Carrots
1 medium onion
2 celery stalks
3-4 cloves of garlic
1 tsp Salt
1 tbsp Olive Oil
1 jar of crushed/pureed tomatoes or 6 - 8 fresh or frozen tomatoes
½ cup white wine (or apple juice)
1 Tbsp Sugar
1 small chili or hot sauce to taste

1) Cut and shape carrots to the desired “hot dog” shape. Save the trimmings!

2) Roughly chop onion, celery and garlic. 

3) Add olive oil, salt, onion, celery, garlic, reserved carrot trimmings to a medium pot and saute on medium high heat for 10 minutes until the onions are translucent.

4) Add white wine (or apple juice) to deglaze the pan. Simmer for a minute then add tomato with sugar and hot sauce or chile. 

5) Cook on low heat for 30 minutes

6) Add the carrot hot dogs submerging in the sauce to cook for another hour+/- on lower heat. Depending on the size of your carrots time will vary but you want to cook until tender but not mushy. He careful when stirring the sauce not to break up the “hot dogs”

7) When the hot dogs are cooked carefully remove them from the sauce. 

8) Allow the sauce to cool and pass through a sieve or use an immersion blender to get the desired consistency. Reserve for later pizza or pasta sauce (can be frozen too).

9) The “hot dogs” can be eaten right away, or my favorite is to allow to cool or even freeze them for later. When you want to eat them just quickly pan fry or grill to give some colour and to heat them up. Fresh bun, pickles, homemade ketchup, pickled onions, micro-greens and vegan mozzarella.
